Most years, the area hosts a stage of the Tour De France. Mont Ventoux, 50 kms away, a mecca for all keen cyclists, is easily reached by car from Les Beaux Chenes.
The Drome-Provencale is a truly fascinating area, with diverse landscape and micro climates. As a result, you can drive along beautiful country lanes, mountain passes or Roman roads, in any direction and find somewhere of interest, often quite different to the last, watching the landscape and architecture change almost from place to place.
Striking is how polite and welcoming people and establishments generally are towards motorcylists and cyclists. It really seems to be no problem for people, even groups, to turn up at a restaurant for lunch, with helmets underarm and bikes parked outside!
A real joy about being in this part of France, of course, aside from the magnificent roads and landscape, is the excellent food and wine. What better way to get a feel for the place than starting with breakfast in a local bar, then riding around, enjoying the scenery, before stopping for a great value set menu at lunchtime and then heading back to the Beaux Chenes for a relax?
